Pennsylvania SNAP Benefits

Last updated: June 13, 2026

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly called food stamps, helps Pennsylvanians buy groceries using an EBT card. SNAP is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), and eligibility is based on household size, income, and certain other factors.

How much can you get?

Monthly SNAP benefit amounts depend on your household size and income. As of October 1, 2025, the maximum monthly benefit for a household of four in Pennsylvania is $994. Maximum amounts range from $298 for one person to $1,789 for a household of eight, with about $218 added for each additional person. Your actual benefit may be lower depending on your household's net income.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility depends on total household income, household details (such as size, age, and disability status), and in some cases work, volunteering, or training requirements. The maximum gross monthly income limit is $5,360 for a household of four. Households with a member who is 60 or older or has a disability may have different rules.

A new federal law adds work reporting requirements for some SNAP recipients, effective at application or your next renewal date.

How to apply

You can apply online through COMPASS (Pennsylvania's benefits website), in person at your local County Assistance Office, or by mailing a paper application.
