Ohio Medicaid
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Ohio Medicaid provides free or low-cost health coverage to more than 3 million Ohioans, including low-income adults, children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with disabilities.
What does Ohio Medicaid cover?
Medicaid covers a comprehensive set of health services, including doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, behavioral health, maternity care, and preventive services. Most members receive care through Ohio's Next Generation managed care plans, designed to put the individual at the center of their care.
Who is eligible?
Ohio expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, so coverage is available to adults with incomes up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level. Children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with disabilities may qualify under additional pathways, sometimes at higher income levels. Eligibility is based on household size and income.
How to apply
You can apply online through the Ohio Benefits self-service portal, by phone, or in person at your county Department of Job and Family Services. You can also submit the Request for Cash, Food, and Medical Assistance (JFS 07200). If you have questions, the Medicaid Consumer Hotline is available to help.
