Hawaii Med-QUEST for Children (CHIP)

Last updated: June 14, 2026

Hawaii covers eligible uninsured children through Med-QUEST, which includes Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funding. This provides free or low-cost health coverage for children in families that may earn too much for traditional Medicaid. It is administered by the Hawaii Department of Human Services, Med-QUEST Division.

What the program covers

Children enrolled through Med-QUEST receive comprehensive coverage including doctor visits, immunizations, dental and vision care, prescriptions, and hospital services, with care delivered through managed care plans.

Who may qualify

Coverage is for eligible uninsured children up to age 19 who are Hawaii residents and meet income and household guidelines. Children in families above the traditional Medicaid limit may still qualify through CHIP-funded coverage.

How to apply

You can apply online, by mail, or in person through the Med-QUEST Division. Applications for children are accepted year-round.
